Srinagar to Gulmarg by Urbania or Tempo Traveller: Group Day Trip Guide

Gulmarg lies roughly 50 km west of Srinagar, and the drive usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic through Pattan and the final climb after Tangmarg. For a group, one Force Urbania or Tempo Traveller keeps everyone on the same schedule: no waiting for a second cab at viewpoints, one driver handling parking at Gulmarg, and your whole group reaching the Gondola base together.

A typical Gulmarg day plan

Most groups leave Srinagar between 8 and 9 am so they reach the Gondola base before the longest queues form. Phase 1 of the Gondola runs up to Kongdoori; Phase 2 continues to Apharwat when weather and snow conditions allow. After the Gondola, groups usually spend time in the main meadow, visit St. Mary’s Church, and start the drive back by 4 to 5 pm so the mountain stretch is cleared before dark.

Which vehicle suits your group?

  • Up to 9 people: the 9-seater Tempo Traveller (from ₹6,000/day) or the 10-seater Force Urbania (from ₹7,000/day) if you want recliner seats and a quieter cabin.
  • 10 to 13 people: the 12 or 14-seater Tempo Traveller for budget groups, or the 13-seater Urbania for families travelling with elders.
  • 14 to 17 people: the 17-seater Tempo Traveller or the 17-seater Urbania, which keeps a large group in one vehicle.

Winter trips (December to March)

Gulmarg is at its busiest when it snows, and the Tangmarg to Gulmarg stretch can be affected by snowfall and ice. On heavy-snow days, local authorities sometimes restrict the final stretch to 4×4 vehicles. Our team checks road status before departure and tells you in advance if the last leg needs to be arranged locally, so there are no surprises on the day.

What the fare includes

Day-trip fares include the vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls and parking. Gondola tickets, pony rides, ATV rides, ski equipment and meals are paid separately at Gulmarg. Gondola tickets sell out on peak days, so booking them online in advance through the official cable car corporation website is strongly recommended.

Booking tips

  • In peak season (April to June and the snow months), book your vehicle a few days ahead.
  • Share your exact group size and luggage so we can suggest the right seater.
  • Combining Gulmarg with an airport pickup or a multi-day Kashmir tour usually works out better than separate one-day bookings. See our group tour cost guide.
