Month by Month — Quick Take

March–April · Tulips

Asia’s largest Tulip Garden blooms — usually late March to mid-April, and only for about three weeks. Almond blossom in Srinagar, snow still on the peaks. Book early; the tulip window is short.

May–June · Peak Green

The most popular window. Meadows fully green, both Gulmarg Gondola phases running, weather ideal. Bigger crowds and peak rates. Zoji La opens — Leh trips begin.

July–August · Light Monsoon

Kashmir’s monsoon is mild, though there can be rain. Greenery at its densest. Amarnath Yatra season. The Leh road is fully open.

September–October · Golden

Our personal favourite. Golden chinars, crisp air, thinner crowds, better rates. Best month for photography. Zoji La often stays open into October.

November–December · First Snow

Cold sets in and the first snow falls. Gulmarg starts turning white. Zoji La closes, so the Leh road shuts. Few crowds, spectacular views.

January–February · Deep Winter

Chillai Kalan — the heaviest snow. Peak Gulmarg skiing. The Dal sometimes freezes. Some upper roads close, but what’s open is magical.

Road & Access Reality

Srinagar–Leh (Zoji La): roughly June to October — snowbound and closed the rest of the year. If Leh is on your list, you have to travel in that window. Leh Ladakh guide →

Gulmarg: open year-round, including in snow — our drivers are winter-experienced. Pahalgam and Sonamarg: open year-round, though inner valleys are limited during heavy snow.

Gurez: roughly May to October, because of Razdan Pass. Gurez guide →

FAQ

Questions, Answered

May–June and September–October are the sweet spots. May–June gives peak green meadows with everything open; September–October gives golden chinars, thinner crowds and better value. December–February is best for snow and skiing.
Usually late March to mid-April, and the window is only about three weeks. Confirm dates before booking — the Tulip Garden opening shifts slightly each year with the weather.
Roughly June to October, depending on Zoji La pass conditions. Outside that window the highway is closed by snow, so Leh trips must be planned for summer or early autumn.
Absolutely — if you want snow. Gulmarg becomes a skiing destination, crowds thin out and the Valley looks magical. Just expect cold and some upper roads closed.
September–October and November have noticeably fewer tourists than May–July, with better rates and, in autumn, the golden chinar season.
