First time in Ladakh? This is the classic route β Zoji La, Kargil, Lamayuru, Leh and Pangong, with an acclimatization day built in that too many people skip and regret.
| Day | Route | Drive | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Srinagar β Kargil | ~200 km Β· 7β8 hrs | Sonamarg, Zoji La, Drass, Kargil War Memorial. Overnight Kargil. |
| Day 2 | Kargil β Leh | ~220 km Β· 7β8 hrs | Mulbekh Maitreya, Fotu La, Lamayuru moonland, Magnetic Hill, Sangam. Overnight Leh. |
| Day 3 | Leh β Rest & Local | Short drives | Acclimatization day β Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, the market. Necessary; don’t skip it. |
| Day 4 | Leh β Pangong β Leh | ~5 hrs each way | Chang La (~17,590 ft), Pangong Tso (~14,270 ft). Day trip or a lakeside camp. |
| Day 5 | Leh β Departure | β | Fly out of Leh, or drive back over the highway (needs extra days). |
This is a template β we adjust it to your group. Fly out of Leh and Day 5 is free; drive back over the highway and you need two more days.
Ladakh has local taxi union rules. In practice: the SrinagarβKargilβLeh highway leg we run with our own Force Urbania or Tempo Traveller β the whole group together, one driver throughout. But for the circuits inside Ladakh (Pangong, Nubra, Khardung La, local sightseeing), a Leh-registered vehicle is generally required, and we coordinate one through our local network.
We say this upfront, because many operators don’t and travellers only discover it in Leh. We plan your whole trip either way β we just keep the mechanics honest. Regd. JKEA00003597.

Entry tickets, camel rides, the Pangong environmental fee and similar are paid on site.
Groups often ask: “What’s the point of a rest day? Add another place.” Here’s why. Leh sits at about 11,500 ft, and you’ve climbed there from 5,200 ft in two days. Your body needs time.
Skipping Day 3 and heading straight to Pangong β 14,270 ft, over Chang La at 17,590 ft β is precisely the mistake that ruins trips with altitude sickness. One day of rest saves the whole holiday. Read the altitude guide β
